Scalp Infections

Bacterial or fungal infections that can damage hair follicles, leading to temporary or permanent hair loss.

Scalp infections are a common but often overlooked cause of medical hair loss. These infections caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses can disrupt the health of hair follicles and lead to itching, inflammation, flaking and hair shedding.

One of the most common culprits is tinea capitis a fungal infection ( often called “Scalp Ringworm” ) that can create scaly patches and temporary bald spots. Other conditions like folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis and bacterial infection can also damage the scalp and weaken hair growth.

In many cases, if caught early and treated the hair can regrow. But for some women , especially those dealing with recurring or severe infections, the hair loss may be more noticeable or long lasting leading to frustration, embarrassment and emotional distress.
